Welcome to the Manchester EngD Centre in Engineering for Manufacture
The EngD Centre manages the structure, content and delivery of the Engineering Doctorate in "Engineering for Manufacture". This is an intensive but broadly-based postgraduate research programme which supports manufacturing industry ranging from construction, electronics, power generation, paper and packaging, textiles, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, through to aerospace engineering and new materials.
Talented postgraduates, known as Research Engineers (REs), from across the whole range of engineering and physical science disciplines take on challenging, doctoral level research projects which address strategic issues and create significant added value for their sponsoring organisations. At the same time, through a programme of taught business/enterprise modules (leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Management), we develop their understanding of the commercial world in which their sponsors operate, and train them to engage closely with it so they understand, and can react to, the business drivers for their project.
As well as a doctoral level qualification, the EngD incorporates a comprehensive Professional and Personal Skills Development Programme designed to encourage the development of well-rounded and effective individuals. This is currently the only EngD Centre approved as an accredited training provider by professional institutions (IMechE and IET), allowing rapid mentored progression for many of our students to CEng. REs in other disciplines are also supported in seeking chartered status.

PLEASE NOTE: at the present time we are unable to offer EPSRC matching funding for the EngD in Engineering for Manufacture. We continue to welcome enquiries from self-funded candidates or from companies who are able to fully fund a project.
